Spontaneous or induced-apoptosis regulates tumor growth. << Programmed cell death >> appears to be dependent on several oncogenes. Some of these genes like c-myc have been previously involved in cell proliferation while others like bcl-2 were shown to be only apoptosis inhibitors. Cell metabolism is directed to cell death or proliferation depending on checkpoints involving molecules such as p53. The understanding of apoptosis mechanisms in tumor cells and apoptosis induction by various treatments offers new perspectives in malignant tumor prophylaxis and treatment.fr
